4 Moving Mistakes That You Must Avoid

When you are moving into a new home, you will likely want to hire professional movers. This will make the moving process much easier on you and the rest of your family. However, there are many common mistakes that people make when it comes to moving and utilizing the services of a local moving company. Here are four mistakes that you must be sure you try and avoid:

  1. Under Estimating How Much You Are Moving: It's very common for people to hire local movers and choose a smaller truck than what they need. Of course, the reason for this is to save money. However, in the end, you will find yourself having to make extra trips in your own car just to get all your stuff moved into the new space. This is going to cost you in gas and time, which can make the move just as stressful as it would've been if you hadn't hired professional movers in the first place. So, be sure that you opt for the right size moving truck and always go a size bigger if you are unsure.
  2. Not Labeling: When you hire local movers and you label your boxes based on the rooms that they belong to, the movers will move these boxes into those rooms in your new home. This is going to be really helpful when it's time for you to start unpacking. This will also ensure that the boxes are not being stacked in the front entrance of the home, which can lead to damages due to people walking in these areas and the potential of boxes falling down on the others.
  3. Not Keeping Inventory: When you hire professional movers, it's important to keep inventory of your more expensive household items, such as the antique silverware from your grandparents, electronics, and more. Not only do you want to write these items down to check mark them off when they arrive to your new home, but you also want to be sure that you take pictures of these items, as well in case of damages that occur during the move. This is important for insurance purposes.
  4. Moving Hazardous Items: When you are moving into a new space, you want to be sure that you do not pack any hazardous items. This can include cleaning supplies. If these cleaning supplies are new, these need to be moved to your new home separately from everything else. You can pack them in your own car away from other household items. You want to do this because in the gas that these items spill, you won't have to worry about them ruining your other things.

By avoiding these four common moving mistakes, you can be sure that your move goes a bit more smoothly and without trouble.
